The Drone Forensic Lab & Research Centre is a specialized facility dedicated to the application of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) in law enforcement and public safety. The Centre serves as a hub for drone operations, forensic investigations, technical research, capacity building, and indigenous development of drone-based solutions tailored to policing requirements. The Centre supports operational units by providing technical expertise, training, forensic examination, and research-driven innovations for effective drone deployment in diverse law enforcement scenarios. Our vision is to emerge as a Centre of Excellence in drone technology, counter-drone systems, aerial surveillance, and drone forensics, supporting law enforcement agencies through innovation, research, training, and operational excellence for ensuring public safety and national security. We leverage advanced drone technologies for enhancing policing, public safety, and security operations through specialized training, research and development, forensic analysis, and deployment of innovative aerial solutions for law enforcement applications.

Core Functions

1. Counter-Drone Operations

  • Detection, identification, tracking, and mitigation of rogue and unauthorized drones.
  • Technical support during VIP security, public gatherings, critical infrastructure protection, and special operations.
  • Evaluation and testing of Counter-UAS technologies and operational procedures.

2. Drone Pilot Training & Capacity Building

  • Conducting DGCA-compliant Remote Pilot Training programmes.
  • Specialized drone operation courses for police, security personnel, and government agencies.
  • Advanced training in aerial surveillance, tactical drone operations, mapping, search and rescue, and disaster response.
  • Development of standard operating procedures and operational guidelines.

3. Law & Order Drone Surveillance

  • Aerial monitoring during festivals, elections, public events, protests, and crowd management operations.
  • Real-time situational awareness and intelligence gathering.
  • Support for traffic management, disaster response, and emergency operations.
  • Assistance to field units through live aerial surveillance and video analytics.

4. Drone Research & Development

  • Design and development of indigenous drone platforms for policing and public safety applications.

5. Drone Forensics & Technical Analysis

  • Scientific examination and forensic analysis of seized, crashed, or recovered drones.
  • Extraction and analysis of flight logs, telemetry data, onboard media, and electronic evidence.
  • Identification of drone origin, flight history, and operational patterns.
  • Preparation of forensic reports to support investigations and judicial proceedings.
  • Development of forensic methodologies and best practices for drone-related incidents.
